IBN STAR GABRIEL - aka Gabby

(2001-____)

Arabian

Gabby, a purebred Arabian, was born on a ranch in Oklahoma.  His owners were not abusive but their work kept them from home.  He ran in a pasture with horses until he was 18 months.  We got him loaded and he made the trip home fine.  I stayed with him most of the night but I went to the house for a sandwich and he broke loose.  He wrecked his halter, tore down the corral fence and ran through the back pasture fence.  He was gone and it was dark and very cold.  I found him 2 hours later after daylight.  He was eating grass by a neighbors house.  I could feed him oats but couldn't touch him.  Finally I led my colt, KC, over to him and he followed him home.

It took months of work for him to trust me and then he became jealous and tried to keep me away from the other horses and he still didn't trust strangers.  Even the Vet couldn't get close.  He finally came around but he is still really jealous if another horse or person is near me.  That's OK.  It's nice to be loved and he's nice to look at.

Gabby Arrived 11/2002

1/21/2004 - Gabby will now tolerate strangers pretty good but he tries to not let any person or horse between him and me. That little rascal is jealous.

7/20/2004 - Gabby is becoming the perfect 3 year old. He is not yet big and tall but he sure is easy to look at.

8/3/2005 - Gabby is getting taller with healthy food and is training quit well.  He is 14 hands now and is remaining slender but not skinny.  The food is going to height and that's good.  He trusts just about everyone now and is a little aggressive how close he wants to be to you.

10/30/2005 - With good feed and exercise Gabby is growing into the classic Arabian look.  With good feed and lots of it, he's getting taller and filling out real Arabian.  Much better than the little fellow who came here.

11/25/2006 - Gabby just keeps getting better looking.  He is five now and still growing a little.  He may yet get to 15 hands high.  It's easy to tell he is 100 percent Arabian.  He is still jealous an tries to get between me and any other person or horse.

4/17/2007 - Gabby has suddenly lost weight this spring.  He might have had a virus and now his veterinary thinks maybe we need to float his teeth.  He's eating slow and maybe not digesting what he eats so good. It has always been hard to keep him from being a little thin but not as much as now.  All his tests show him to be healthy and he sure acts lively and happy, always frolicking with the other horses or me.

←4/28/2007 - We went to the doctor today and Gabby had his teeth floated and got some vitamins and dewormer.  Hopefully it will help him to put on some of his lost weight.  After we got home and his drowsiness wore off, he seemed happy and energetic.

←6/16/2007 - Gabby is looking really better now.  He is gaining weight and shedding good.  His hip needs more meat on it but his ribs are much better covered.  He has a lot of energy.

Gabby

←9/2/2007 - Gabby has almost all his weight back (another 50 pounds will be better) and looks fantastic.  He is full of energy and eating well in a stall by himself.

He's still jealous and won't let another horse near me if he can help it.

6/4/2008 - Every year he looks more like his Arab Heritage.  With long flowing mane and tail he sure looks good this year.  His new diet is working well.  He is very high energy and likes to show off.  He really likes to run and can go with any challenger.

He not big but his ego makes up for that.

Gabbys Mane

Wow! Gabby has big mane!
